Instruction is literature-based with the integration of grammar and composition. Literature of all genres, the writing process, vocabulary study, grammar concepts, oral and silent reading, and formal\/informal speaking skills are areas of emphasis. Developmental reading skills are taught and enriched. Students respond to what they read both orally and in writing. Activities to build writing skills are stressed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>8th Grade Mathematics<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This course is designed to illustrate the connection between mathematics and its applications.\u00a0 Coursework will be given in the context of problem-solving and exploration.\u00a0 The relevance of mathematical concepts to a variety of areas is emphasized throughout this course.\u00a0This includes exponents, functions, equations, linear equations, systems of equations, transformations, congruence and similarities.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Science<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The middle school physical science course is designed to give students the necessary skills for a smooth transition from elementary physical science standards to high school physical science standards. The purpose is to give all students an overview of common strands in physical science including, but not limited to, the nature of matter, laws of energy, matter, motion and forces, and energy transformation.Georgia Department of Education (2006).
